Who can volunteer?
Individuals, groups, families...anyone can volunteer!
What does a volunteer do?
You name it, they do it! Special Olympics is a volunteer-driven organization, which means that we need volunteers for just about everything. Volunteers can coach athletes, help in fundraising, coordinate events, give office support, volunteer the days of events, serve on committees and so much more!
When can I volunteer?
You can volunteer YEAR-ROUND! One of the most common misconceptions about Special Olympics is that we offer a "once-a-year" event. In reality, Special Olympics provides year-round training and competition for athletes, which means we need volunteers like you all of the time.
Where do I have to go to volunteer?
Special Olympics is a grassroots, community-based organization. That means there is probably a local-level Special Olympics program that you can volunteer with in your local community. Visit our Locations page to find your local Volunteer Director.
You can also volunteer at the state-level. State-level events include:
-Midwinter Classic in Charleston in February
-Basketball Tournament in Columbia in April
-Summer Games in Columbia in May
-Fall Games in Anderson in October
At each of these levels, you can volunteer in all the ways that we have already mentioned. We are always in need of volunteers for key leadership positions, as well as event-day volunteers to pull everything together.
How do I sign up?
